Tuesday 14th April 6:30pm

Explore the transformative years Charlotte and Emily Brontë spent in Brussels, a period that shaped Charlotte both as a writer and as a woman. In this insightful talk, Helen MacEwan draws on Charlotte’s letters and novels to reveal how life at the Pensionnat Heger—and her intense connection with her teacher, Constantin Heger—influenced Villette and The Professor. Through the highs and lows of Charlotte’s Belgian experience, Helen uncovers the emotional and creative forces that fed directly into her fiction.

Helen MacEwan is a Brussels‑based author and retired translator whose work includes The Brontës in Brussels and Through Belgian Eyes. She is also the founder of the Brussels Brontë Group, which has been promoting Brontë interest through talks and guided walks since 2006.
